Maryland requires its residents to have a permit to purchase a regulated firearm. Regulated firearms in Maryland include handguns, short-barreled rifles and shotguns and machine guns.

Starting off with a handgun can be a daunting task. Lots of buttons. Lots of options. Many manufactures and models. If you have just purchased a pistol and are looking to familiarize yourself with it or if you are seeking to buy your first handgun, the Basic Pistol Course is right for you. You will receive the Maryland Handgun Qualification License at the completion of the course. We cover safety and storage of firearms, basic nomenclature of revolvers and semi-automatic handguns, basic shooting fundamentals, ammunition and cleaning and maintenance.
